The Non-GMO Label in My Cart

October 5, 2015

When grocery shopping, I try to check all of the items I buy and choose not to buy any that have a misleading or offensive label on them. I also try not to purchase items from companies that have chosen to stand against modern agriculture (General Mills, Hershey’s, and Aunt Millie’s being some examples.)

But I can also admit that I’m not perfect.

Over the weekend while grocery shopping, I accidentally allowed an item with a non-GMO label to get into the cart. I didn’t catch it at the check-out either and it made its way home with us. I’m disappointed that I let my hard earned dollars go to a company that promotes misleading and confusing labels, as well as a label that needlessly attacks my family’s farm.

To make up for it though, I used the opportunity to make a graphic about it. That at least helps; right?

Misleading Advertising I can't believe its not butter

For more information about the safety of genetically modified crops, I encourage you to check out my post about the over 2,000 scientific studies available supporting that GMOs are just as safe as their non-GMO counterparts.

New to your site, I love everything I’ve read so far. I’m a small dairy farmer in upstate NY with a proposed natural gas pipeline going through one of our fields. The anti people ( mainly artist and city people) are dead set against it. Have you happen to have done an article on natural gas and dairy farms in previous articles? Thanks mike

Hi Mike and welcome to the site! I have not written about that issue yet. I’d love to hear some of your thoughts about it though! 🙂
