2014 Election Results!

November 5, 2014

Curious to find out how some of the ag related competitions at the ballot box turned out?

You’ve come to the right place!

Oregon’s Measure 92: Fails! It was a slim margin, but Oregon will not have mandatory GMO labeling.

Colorado’s Proposition 105: Fails. There will be no labeling of GMOs in Colorado!

Humboldt County, California (ban on GMO production): The ban passed, but I’m told that very few GMO crops are suitable for Humboldt County.

Maui County, Hawaii’s Ban on GMO Production: It appears the ballot proposal banning the growing of genetically modified crops has passed.

Congratulations to Oregon and Colorado voters for choosing science over fear and supporting farmer’s in our quest to grow nutritious, affordable, and safe food! However, I am saddened and worried for the farmers in Maui County, Hawaii that will now be without the tools they need to continue growing signature produce, such as the papaya, on their farms.
